There millions of of websites on the internet. Once you choose a niche for your online business, it is easy to get distracted and unorganized. That is why it is important for you to have a home online.

This is similar to the offline world where we have adapted the saying “There is no place like home.”

Your home on the internet is your blog. Unlike your web pages on the many social sites, where your space for self expression is somewhat limited, your blog has few restrictions and much more flexibility.

Also if you have a business, then promoting your business on social sites is similar to promoting your business at a party or a social event. People are mainly there to socialize and  when you are pushing your opportunity, you come across as pushy and annoying.

When you have a blog, you it is more acceptable to have a link on your page so people can visit you at your blog.  This is similar to inviting people from a party to your house.

This is where they can find out more about you and and your business.

Your blog may link to other websites such as sales pages and capture pages. These would represent your business office or place of work.  This is where sales are made.

Notice how your blog links everything together.

So how do you set up a blog? A lot of free social sites allow also have blogs attached, but I definitely recommend using an independent blogging platform like Blogger or WordPress.

These are also free, but there is a better alternative.

Having a free blog is similar to renting. Being a home owner gives you many more options.

Owning a blog is not anywhere near as expensive as owning an actual house.

To do this you would need a hosting account which is also referred to as your virtual real estate. Similar to physical property, your virtual real estate has the  potential to increase in value, depending on how you manage your asset.

Web hosting is very inexpensive. I recommend using Hostgator’s Baby Plan for your web hosting services, because the this plan allows you to host multiple assets for less than $ 10 per month.

If you use the coupon code, “blogdiscount” when you sign up for an account you will get a discount on your plan.

You will also need a domain name which costs less than $ 20 per year.

If you have picked a niche, try coming up with a domain name related to your niche.  To make this process easy, you can buy your domain name at Hostgator also. This will save you the trouble of trying to figure out how to transfer your domain name.

There are a lot of benefits to having your own self-hosted blog. I will cover those benefits in another article.

Much Success,
