Evaluating the Real Cost of Operation

A manufacturing facility, petrochemical plant, power generation utility or any other industrial facility may contain many diverse unit operations and involve diverse resources such as raw materials, fuel sources, electrical supply, machinery and human resources. Given the complex nature of these facilities it can be difficult to understand all the costs involved in the production process and where these costs originate. However a detailed understanding of the individual production costs and how they contribute to the total operational cost is the key to making effective decisions in the day to day running of a facility. In order to fully understand all the costs involved in the operation of a facility it is necessary to have a good level of familiarity with all the unit operations and understand all the costs involved in each operation. In the process of putting together a comprehensive cost model for the facility the procedure is as follows: 1. List the unit operations involved in the operation of the facility. 2. For each unit operation identify all the cost inputs. 3. For each cost input identify the critical process indicators (KPIs) from which these cost inputs can be calculated on a daily basis. 4. Identify the on-going maintenance cost on a daily basis: including repair, replacement and manpower costs. 5. Identify all human costs in operating the facility including management, operational control and manual labour. The simple process of going through this procedure of identifying the daily operating cost of operating a facility and understanding where these costs are coming from can provide important insights into how operational costs can be reduced. This analysis can...

The Real Meaning Of Human Resource

“Words mean things.”   “Before you can define what something is, you must first define what it is not.”   “There can be no intelligent or meaningful discussion until you first agree on your definition of terms.”   I learned those three bits of wisdom when I was in the tenth grade. As far as my teacher was concerned, they were axiomatic, and they were laws which could never be violated.    Now I’m not especially proud of having worked for some sixty employers in my life, but what’s done is done and can’t be undone. While this does indeed speak volumes about me-and whether or not you like it or agree or not-it also speaks volumes about those employers.   In the early ’80’s I was working at a manufacturing facility through a temporary agency. The parking spaces directly in front of the offices were, as is so often the case, reserved for specific office workers. And it was the sign for the “Personnel Manager” that had caught my eye on the very first day.   It’s a given I’d already been around the block a few times when I was sent to this particular employer. And knowing management and managers as I had come to understand them, it was surprising to me that such a rusty, dilapidated old sign, hanging between two equally rusty chains, would be allowed to remain in front of this company.   And so I made a game of keeping an eye on that sign, wondering just how long it would be before it was replaced. And then one morning, there it was,...

Customers are ultimately satisfied with the speed of the delivery, bringing repeat business. Furthermore, the effective driver management will reflect positively on every element of the business. This particular software can also send information back to the office from vehicles in the field. While in the field, driver management programs will track and report the actions of drivers during their shift. It will send location information, stopping times and one of the best things – courier delivery software can track if drivers are speeding. Maintaining speeds if important to ensure public safety, reduce liability, avoid fines and operate efficiently. SEO and Marketing – A Real World Example

By using a combination of SEO, search engine optimization, and social media marketing, a marketer’s product/service can be promoted in many various, and thus gain the attention of numerous more potential clientele. But, the question is, how? One way to explain this technique of using both search engine optimization and social marketing is with an example. So, take Oprah as the example. SEO wise, potential clientele know Oprah; by knowing Oprah, potential clientele know when and how to tune into her show. So, potential clientele have been told by commercials how to find Oprah whenever they are watching television just as search engines tell users how to find other marketers-both are search engine optimization, in essence. The next step is social media marketing. A good example, keeping consistent with the Oprah example, is Oprah’s book club campaign. When Oprah promotes a book to be read, she does it through an engaging network. Online, there are book club forums, and search engine optimization for the keywords “Oprah’s book club” themselves. So, by engaging with the potential clientele through the television, as well as the studio audience, there is some sort of relationship. This relationship is a reference the SMM, social media marketing, tactic of promoting a product and/or service of a vendor. Because of how Oprah interacts with communities, she deploys SMM. So, traffic, networking and thus conversations, and general attention forms toward the specified product/service that is advertised. This way, participation increases; the more participation, the stronger user to user connection gets. These indirect connections for a company is becoming more and more of a necessity because of how...
