Definition of a Smart Home

What is the definition of a smart home?  According to Wikipedia a smart home is: “Home automation, also called domotics, is the residential extension of “building automation”. It is automation of the home, housework or household activity. Home automation may include centralized control of lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), appliances, and other systems, to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security.” Have you ever seen a smart home?  The first time I fell in love with one was when I watched the movie “The Holiday” starring Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz.  Their characters in the movie swapped houses during the holidays.  Kate’s house was a picturesque cottage in Surrey while Cameron Diaz’ house was a Smart Home in Beverly Hills.  When I saw the scene where Kate Winslet, who had jet lag, was about to sleep during broad daylight, and she accidentally pressed the button for the blinds of the room, making it look pitch black and night time, I was impressed and jealous of the technology. I want to have my own smart home someday. Here are some of the things that I want automated in my house: 1.  Gate. Whether I’ve just arrived and about to park the car or I’m on my way to work, an automated gate can open and close with just a push of a button. It would also come in handy when it’s raining so I wouldn’t have to get myself drenched in rain just to open and close the gate. 2. Motion Detectors and Security Systems.  I will be notified via mobile phone when a motion sensor in...

Capitalism Definition

cap·i·tal·ism [kap-i-tl-iz-uh m] Capitalism and Socialism -noun An economic system in which the investment in and ownership of production, distribution, and exchange of goods or wealth is made by private individuals or corporations, which is in contrast to cooperatively or state-owned means of wealth or socialism. Capitalism and Socialism are contrasting in this area. Socialism advocates that the community owns the means of investment, production, and distribution. Or in essence every product is owned by the community. Individual ownership is nonexistent. This type of system alleviates the stress of capitalism by removing the competitive nature of a capitalistic society. Free capitalism and enterprise can be used interchangeably. Enterprise is taking on important or difficult ventures (businesses?) that require a certain level of boldness and energy to complete. In essence free capitalism = free enterprise. American capitalism was founded on the simple idea that you should be rewarded for the work you put forward. Ambition is rewarded for the few who have the drive and energy to realize their dreams. Along the way America’s form of capitalism has become hybrid of capitalism and socialism. Free enterprise is abundant, ambitious Americans are rewarded for their boldness and energy in the form of large paychecks, or companies that have become empires and have turned a brand name to common knowledge. Democracy Capitalism could be the best definition for America’s current economy. The use of private companies where ambitious men and women thrive and the socialistic behavior of monopolistic energy companies, rail roads, mail system, firemen, policemen, etc. This hybrid was a result of democracy, and the rights the people have demanded. Our...

Definition of Oscilloscope

Oscilloscope is a useful tool for testing circuits. It works by detecting signals and let you to know that the system works perfectly. It allows you to see the signals from the output and input sources. It checks whether each source is working correctly and connected to each other or not. It is not that hard to learn how this instrument works. You will be able to learn quickly how to operate this instrument. Oscilloscope has cathode ray tube on its screen just like what we have on our television. It is not exactly the same but, is quite similar in principle. You will find that there is a vacuum in the tube. The electron beam near the end of the tube is focused by an anode or more. It is bent by the voltages to the sets of plates in the tube. The x-plates produce a side to side movement. This part is linked to the system which we call as the time base. We can also find that there is rising and falling stage that appears on the screen. The oscilloscope today is very light in weight. You can bring it anywhere you go. Due to its portability, you will find the battery-powered instrument in the market. This is commonly used for field service need. For laboratory oscilloscope, we usually find oscilloscope which has vacuum tubes. It is usually place in the bench since its size is not portable. The special model of oscilloscope is good enough to be placed at home. In the previous paragraph you read the description of oscilloscope. This instrument does not come...

High Definition Television

HDTV or high definition television normally refers to any video system of higher resolution than the standard definition. The original HD specifications date back to the early 1980s, when Japan first experimented with a 1025 line television standard. Japan presented their parameters at an international meeting of television engineers in Algiers in 1981 and Japan’s NHK presented their analog HDTV system at a Swiss conference in 1983. Except for these early formats, HDTV is digital broadcast and therefore their introductions will sometimes coincide with the introduction of DTV, or digital television. The signals for high definition require a high definition television or a computer monitor in order to be watched or viewed. High definition video will normally have an aspect ratio of 16:9. The aspect ratio of the regular widescreen film that is shot today is normally 1:85:1 or 2:40:1. The standard type of television has a 4:3 aspect ratio. High definition television resolution is 1080 or 720 lines. With the contrast, regular digital television is 480 lines or 576 lines. The current quality with DVD is not high definition, although high definition systems such as HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are both expected to be and ship later on in 2006. The most noted feature with high definition video is the fact that it’s so life like. There is HDTV, and HD video cameras. High definition is very popular these days, with television being at the top of the list. High definition video cameras are getting just as popular, as they offer you the chance to capture memories like never before. HD offers you video like never before, making you...
