This article is focused on three very powerful marketing strategies that can do so much for your business that I call them “Jumpstart Your Marketing Engine.” So what is your primary marketing engine?
Do you want to find out where the best deals are? Network! Do you want to find a great job? Network! Do you want to attract more ideal clients? Network!
To a lot of smart business people that means going from one networking event after another. Monday it’s a leads exchange group. Tuesday a chamber meeting. Wednesday the Rotary club. Thursday the Lion’s club. Friday… well you get the picture. Just the thought of all this running around makes me dizzy. Especially if what you do when you get there is gossipy unfocused conversations. In other words useless or at least practically useless activity. What is the purpose of your networking?
I wonder how many of you would agree to surgery if you knew the doctor just read the book and had no experience and worse yet no preparation. How come then so many of us consider ourselves professionals and go to networking events totally unprepared. When asked what you do instead of a concise 10 second answer you get a totally rambling life story.
Maybe it’s time to ask yourself a few questions before you go to the event.
– How can I educate myself on the most effective ways to network?
– Do I have a list of people from the industries I want to form a strategic alliance?
– Who do I want to meet?
– Who do I need to meet?
– What do I know about the people I want to meet?
– What events do can I attend?
The bottom line is you attend networking events to attract the right clients, in the right way at the right time.
So why write articles. Let me count the ways. Actually there are too many reasons to really count but I’m going to share a few reasons with you.
– Grow your data base and get more referrals
– Build rapport and trust with your target
– Be “top of mind” and the solution to a problem
– Get your creative juices going
Got a bit of writers block. Here are a couple of tips to unblock the block.
– Keep an ideas journal.
Keep a notebook with all your writing ideas. Jot them down as soon as any idea comes to mind. You may need to get a hold of these ideas later when you can’t think of anything to write about.
– Change your setting.
The best way to get out of a rut is to change where you are at. If your office feels gloomy, then go outside to write, or to another room in the house. I would highly recommend you leave the house and go out to a coffee shop or my favorite the library. Drag your laptop with you
If you think you can’t write then detach from your work and go for completion rather than perfection. Be open and willing to get better. War and Peace wasn’t the first thing Leo Tolstoy ever wrote. I’m sure just like you he experienced false starts and writing blocks. Have a plan about what you’re going to write. Write. Then let it incubate.
Communicating is the heart of building rapport. Providing useful and relevant information can alter lives. Creating pictures with words allow the audience to live the same moment that you are living with the spoken word and a bit of imagination.
But let’s face it. Some people are boring and can give a unexciting tedious presentation. But you don’t have to be boring. There is no need to see yawning or hear snoring in the back of the room when you are giving your presentation.
So what makes a speech dull? Rambling presentation with a monotone voice. Poor facial expression or the lack there of. The presenter is clearly uninspired by their own words presenting a topic nobody cares about. So what you do if you find yourself giving a bland presentation.
– Tells stories to make the listener laugh, cry or sit on the edge of their seat.
– Make it relevant
– Speak about a subject the audience wants to hear about.
– Speak in a conversational tone.
– Make the audience feel like you are talking to them and not at them.
That’s it. I promise you a few tips that can jumpstart your marketing engine. These tips have been tried and tested by me and many other people . The fact is if you work them they will bring in business. If you’re serious about growing your business, they’ll work for you as well.
