First of all, what is a Business Opportunity?

I just checked out Wikipedia, to see how they define a “business opportunity”. OK, according to the Wikipedia article the following things should be present to qualify an offer as a business opportunity:

* A need

* The means to fulfill the need

* A method to apply the means to fulfill the need and;

* A method to benefit

Now think about the Internet. Ten years ago, I remember people were still wary about buying things online. Since then, things have just EXPLODED! The World Wide Web has developed into a huge marketplace for almost any product you can think of. I even heard of a guy who sold a jet airplane online!

So how does that relate to business opportunities? It is a no-brainer really.

— People have NEEDS. Anything from losing weight to finding the best deal on a Ferrari.

— These people search the Internet for ways to fulfill their need, and are ready to buy a good solution.

— If you can set up a web page with an offer which satisfies the need, then you can make money.

— An online business opportunity is something that shows you how to actually do that.

Now, I can see some of you may think this is too complicated. You may think you must have a product of your own to sell online. And how do you set up a web page? Don’t you have to be some kind of programming whiz?

From my own experience, I can assure you none of that is true. I have made thousands of dollars selling other people’s products and services — without having any product or service of my own.

1. You Don’t Need Your Own Product To Make Money Online

You see, many merchants have found that one of the best ways to sell something is to offer a share of the profit to whoever helps them make a sale. Rather than spending a fortune on advertising, with uncertain results, they simply recruit an army of salespeople — who are strictly paid according to results. These salespeople are usually called “affiliates”.

This system is all over the Internet. Ever heard of Amazon.com? Yes, they use this system to sell their products. You can promote Amazon stuff and get paid a percentage of each sale you help Amazon make.

Another example: How about getting paid $ 100 for each new customer you send to a company? Then consider the web hosting market. Web hosting companies often pay about one hundred dollars just to get one new subscriber to their services! I have personally made tons of money in that market.

2. You Don’t Need To Be a Computer Geek To Make Money Online

I have heard of many people who make an excellent living online, while claiming to know very little about HTML and such. Sure, it helps if you have some very basic knowledge but even that is not mandatory to get started. For example, have you heard about Squidoo.com? This is a place where you can build your own web pages for free! And you do that through a very simple interface — no programming whatsoever. If you know how to write an email, then you can build a Squidoo page.

On that Squidoo page, you can for example tell the world about some product you happen to like, and offer a special link for your visitors to follow if they want to know more about that product. If the visitor uses that link, and buys the product, you get paid. This is so brain-dead simple that anyone can do it.

3. Getting Started Online Is Dirt-Cheap

Have I managed to convince you that selling products and services online is a great business opportunity? I hope so anyway. Because if you think about it: suppose you want to set up some business the old-fashioned way, how easy is that?

If you for example open a store to sell shoes, then you first of all need to rent space for the shoe-shop. You also need to hire salespeople. Not to mention invest money in an inventory of shoes! All this will cost you many thousands of dollars, even before you have made as much as one sale.

By contrast, you can set up a web page at a place like Squidoo for free! And signing up to become an affiliate for other people’s products is also free! The only thing you need to invest is a bit of your time and energy.

Of course, there are some things you need to know to do this as efficiently as possible. You want a good return on your investment of your precious time and energy, don’t you?
